Meta Platforms Launches ’Meta Compute’ Initiative to Expand AI Infrastructure
Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled a new top-level initiative called Meta Compute, aimed at significantly expanding the company's AI infrastructure. In a series of Threads posts, Zuckerberg revealed plans to develop "hundreds of gigawatts or more" of capacity over time, with tens of gigawatts targeted for this decade.
Santosh Janardhan and Daniel Gross will lead the initiative, focusing on technical architecture, silicon programs, and strategic partnerships. The MOVE signals Zuckerberg's hands-on approach to AI infrastructure as Meta positions itself for its next growth phase.
This development follows Meta's previously announced $600 billion US infrastructure investment plan through 2028, which includes data center expansion. The company has yet to disclose how this capital deployment aligns with its long-term strategic vision.
